Pharaoh Ant
Latin name: Monomorium pharaonis
This tiny ant (2mm long) lives throughout the world, but can only survive in the UK in warm places, such as heated buildings. It is a difficult insect to control, partly because of its size and also in the way it lives. A colony will split into several smaller colonies and survive attempts to control it. The Pharaoh ant can be a major problem in hospitals because it can enter machines and sterile instruments etc.
Special traps can be used for this tiny ant, but other measures should be used including making sure premises are clean
