Announcing the 2011 Open Art Exhibition

Bolton Library and Museum Services’ Open Art Exhibition will take place from Saturday 19 November to Saturday 7 January 2012.

Now in its fourth year, this popular open submission exhibition provides local artists and craftspeople the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.

A panel of expert judges will be tasked with selecting the works that go in the exhibition.   They will also choose first, second and third prize winners.  A Visitors’ Choice Award, chosen by the public voting at the museum, will be awarded at the end of the exhibition.

Works will be accepted from people who currently live, work or are in education within the borough of Bolton. Artists must be 16 years of age or over.

Work may be in any visual arts medium (except installations, performance or work requiring electricity).  Original craft will be accepted.

Work should not exceed 180cm in any dimension and should not need more than two people to carry it.

All work entered must be original and produced within the last 3 years.  A maximum of two works may be submitted by each artist.

Work that has been previously submitted to an Open Art exhibition at Bolton Museum will not be accepted.

There are two classes for submission:

  • Class 1: Wall mounted work – e.g. painting, printing, wall hangings, photography, framed textiles
  • Class 2: Plinth, floor based on free standing work – e.g. sculpture, ceramics, glass
All Class 1 works must be handed in at Bolton Museum, Le Mans Crescent

Friday 4 November, 10am – 5pm or Saturday 5 November, 10am – 5pm.

Artists submitting Class 2 work should post or deliver up to six good photographs of each piece of work, with a completed entry form. These have to be at the museum by 5pm on Saturday 5 November 2011.

The entry fee is £5 per work (£2 concessions) and is payable at the time of handing in.  This may be in cash, or by cheque made payable to ‘Bolton Council’.  The entry fee is not refundable.

Concessions include senior citizens, those on Job Seekers Allowance and students (proof required in all cases at time of entry).

Work must be submitted with a completed entry form.
